Background/History:
Nigel grew up in a defeated and oppressed Great Britain occupied by the Nazis
all his life. In his early teens due to poverty and hunger, he survived on the
streets without becoming a thief by hard work. An interrogation sweep of the
ghetto he was in saw him captured for failing to have the proper papers. His
punishment was to be sent to a camp for experimentation purposes in order to
give his life meaning. He ended up in a genetic testing facility which was
essentially a house of horrors. The subjects were tortured and experimented upon
with no regard for their lives or well being. After a particularly painful
injection of some odd glowing fluid, Nigel went into a coma and was placed in a
cell to see if he would awaken. When he did, things were quite different. He sat
up and his blanket went flying. He was on his feet before he realized it. In a
matter of seconds, he realized that he was faster than ever, perhaps the fastest
man alive. His second realization was that if his captors realized what he had
become, he would probably be dissected. Faking pain, the guard came to
investigate and put him on a gurney to take back to the scientists. As soon as
he was in a safe spot, he leaped off the gurney and throttled the guard before
he could speak. Thoughts of revenge crossed his mind, but he was more concerned
with freeing the other helpless victims. So, he raced around unlocking cells and
knocking out guards. To his surprise, many of those who were freed were violent
and, to his horror, some were very powerful and very insane. The entire camp
became a powder keg and he had unintentionally lit the fuse. Grabbing a couple
of seemingly normal people, he raced to safety just as the facility exploded
into flames. Returning home, he discovered that during his imprisonment, his
family had been taken away and were never heard from again. He worked with the
English Underground for a time, but all agreed that he was far too valuable to
risk on his own. They contacted Liberator and sent him to America to join the
Super Allies. Working with them had the unexpected bonus of meeting Magneta and
he fell for her in record time.
Personality/Motivations:
Despite his hard life, he is surprisingly kind and upbeat. His ability to look
at the bright side is probably what attracted Magneta to him and makes him the
heart and soul of the team with a never say die attitude.
