Background/History:
Shaw Spark ran a small and very successful electronics company, but his true
goal in life was to build a powered suit, like the ones in the Starship Troopers
book he loved in his youth. He kept a steady income, but every spare cent went
toward his research. Sam and Savannah grew up in a rather middle class home that
did not reflect the position their father held, but they wanted for nothing.
Their mother grew fed up with Shaw’s obsession and left them. Savannah was
content, but Sam wanted more. Sam concentrated on athletics intending on a pro
sports career to make him rich. Savannah took after her father and graduated
with honors. Finally, Shaw had a working prototype and his athletic son was the
perfect choice to test it. Savannah had helped her father for years and had been
test running the armor, but her father felt a man would be more acceptable as a
protector of the weak. They unveiled the armor, but no one showed up, except the
millionaire industrialist Argent Starr. The other invited guests had been ‘detained’,
bought off, or convinced that Shaw was a crank. Shaw refused to sell the suit to
Starr and had Sam, under the name ‘Centurion’, use the suit to help people
to gain a reputation. Starr was furious and began a plan to seduce Sam away from
his father by showing him the good life, the life he should have had if his
father wasn’t so stubborn. It worked slowly, but the plan succeeded when Sam
signed a contract with Starr. Starr, who secretly was a criminal, quickly
realized that marketing the suit would take years since he’d didn’t have
access to the plans and that was not as profitable as using it for crimes.
Setting Sam up was easy, blackmailing him into following orders was initially
difficult, but Sam liked the good life and his inhibitions drifted away. Shaw
and Savannah had tried to talk sense to him, but Sam was too far gone. So, they
put together another suit for Savannah and grimly she set out to bring her
brother in. She trailed him to a Starr warehouse and burst in to confront her
brother. Unfortunately, Starr was there, as well. Sam recognized the suit
instantly and he knew who had to be inside. Starr ordered him to kill her, since
no one could know about his secret life. Sam refused, Starr threatened to ruin
him, Sam again refused to kill for him, and Starr had his men open fire. Against
the two suits of armor, they had no chance, but they created enough of a
distraction for Starr to escape. He had also rigged a little surprise, just in
case Sam became a liability, a remote controlled poisoned dart inside the suit.
Given the choice of certain revenge or possibly retaining the suit, he chose
revenge. Sam died before his sister could do anything to help him. She continued
to work with her father and fight crime to this day.
Personality/Motivations:
A studious, learned girl, Savannah quietly concentrates on getting her job done
and devoted her life to making up for her brother and stopping the evil men like
Starr who prey on the weak and helpless.
