Background/History:
Jared Kligh was a rich industrialist who met a beautiful woman at a party and
fell for her hard. Hannah was an agent for the CIA in an undercover role, but
the attraction was undeniable. They married and she continued her career, even
after having two sons. Assigned to discover the link between an international
criminal ring and the mysterious American crime boss known as the Rose, Hannah’s
luck finally ran out. Betrayed by a mole in her own agency, she was murdered by
the Rose himself as an example to those who would try to interfere with his
plans. Jared threw all of his clout and wealth into seeking vengeance for his
wife’s death. Steven was only ten when his mother died and grew up seeing his
father’s attempts at gaining revenge, a vengeance that he wanted as well. He
decided to take matters in his own hands and trained tirelessly to become able
to avenge his mother himself. He mastered many forms of martial arts, various
weapons, and learned the skills and sciences necessary to track down his prey.
The years of bitterness filled with too much alcohol and too many cigarettes
broke Jared’s health. On his deathbed realizing how he’d wasted his life
with hatred and bitterness, Jared made Steven promise to let go of his hate and
let the law handle the Rose. Steven could not refuse his father’s last wish,
so he vowed that Steven Kligh would not bring down the Rose. He created a new
identity and donned the mask of the Red Avenger. Although initially a vigilante,
he was content to turn criminals over to the law and eventually became deputized
by the Haven City Police. Many criminals have been captured over the years and
numerous masterminds have been outsmarted, but the Rose still eludes his grasp.
Personality/Motivations:
Grim and focused, he devotes his days to running his father’s business and his
nights to fighting crime. Generally a loner due to his fierce streak of
independence, he works with others only when necessary, with the exception of
his brother who took on the codename Night Shade.
