Name: POE-Ku
Race: Telliarian
Planet: Augsmore
Occupation: Superhero
Known Relatives: None
Group Affiliation: Union of Peace
Base of Operations: New York, NY
Background/History:
POE-Ku was the last of his race and had grown weary of the solitude of his now
dead world. He decided to travel the galaxy in search of a new home. The first
planet he encountered with intelligent life forms was the Earth. He felt that he
could aid humanity’s growth with his mental abilities. Masking his alien
appearance with a mental illusion, he traveled about and eventually encountered
the Attackers. He was duty bound to try and stop them. He did succeed in running
them off, but he was almost knocked unconscious. He realized that if he had been
knocked out, the illusion would have dropped and his alien form would have been
revealed and vulnerable. He decided it might be best to find a suitable human
with abilities he could augment. Colin was used to getting by on his smarts,
since he was a small, almost frail fellow. In his teens, he discovered that he
had low level mental abilities. He could read surface thoughts and such, usually
more by accident than design. He focused his abilities as best he could, learned
the tricks of the trade to compensate, and became a showman, coincidentally,
following in the footsteps of the man who became Controller in the Attackers.
POE-Ku saw Colin’s act and recognized his true abilities beyond the tricks. He
met Colin after the show and made the offer to work with him to do great deeds.
After a quick and effective demonstration, Colin agreed to give it a try and
both were pleased with their results. They crossed swords with the Attackers on
a number of occasions and Controller finally caught on to the link between them.
Controller planned to break their connection and reveal POE-Ku as some horrible
alien creature. The Attackers captured the pair and got a TV news show to reveal
them. To amuse himself during the boring parts, Tusk beat POE-Ku nearly to death
as the alien refused to show the pain. The Union of Peace arrived and the
Attackers fled, but the damage had been done. POE-Ku realized he was finally
going to join his people, so he passed his powers directly to Colin and died.
Colin had been abused quite a bit himself and had felt the pain of his alien
friend ended up a bit changed by the whole experience. He became much more
serious and grim. Healer attempted to help Colin physically and spiritually, but
damage like that cannot be easily repaired. Time will tell if Colin can overcome
it.
Personality/Motivations:
POE-Ku was a very friendly and good natured being. Colin was used to fending for
himself and, although not overly selfish, was generally looking out for number
one. The lessons he learned from POE-Ku softened his stance and he began to
genuinely enjoy helping others. The murder of his partner has left him angry and
that rage has taken a great deal of the fun out of his work. Still dedicated to
helping those in need, he is even more dedicated to punishing evil, especially
the Attackers.
